Tomer Rubinstein

Tomer Rubinstein, aged 19, is a young Israeli pianist studying with Professor Asaf Zohar at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv.

Tomer is considered one of the most promising young musical talents in Israel. Two weeks after turning 18 (2022), he received the first prize at the "Kan Kol-Hamusica" "Young Artist" Piano Competition, one of the top national competitions in Israel for ages 18-28. He also won the "Edward Aldwell Prize" for the best performance of a composition by J S Bach. In the same year, Tomer received the fifth prize at the "Tbilisi International Piano Competition”, where he performed the entire "Hammerklavier" Sonata Op. 106 by Beethoven and the four Chopin Ballades, among other works. Tomer has been supported for many years by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, from which he recently received a "High-Excellence" scholarship (2022).

Additional prizes include: second prize at the "Psanter Letamid" Competition (2021), second prize at the "Kan Kol-Hamusica" "Young Artist" Piano Competition (2020), and the Lea and Isaac Levin Excellence Scholarship (2021).

Tomer graduated from some of Israel's best institutions and programmes for excellent young musicians, such as the Israeli Conservatoire of Music, Tel Aviv, where he studied piano with Mr Ron Trachtman. He also attended the "Kfar-Hayarok" High School Music Department for performance and composition, the "Mishkenot-Shaananim" programme for excellent young musicians in Jerusalem, and the Edward Aldwell Institute at the Eden-Tamir Music Center, Jerusalem.

Tomer studied composition privately for many years with composers Rafi Kadishzon and Menachem Wiesenberg. At the age of 16, he composed a piece that was performed by a string quartet from the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has participated in a large number of courses and masterclasses, most notably the masterclass with pianist and conductor Christoph Eschenbach (2022, Tel Aviv), and the masterclass with pianist Garrick Ohlsson (2022, Jerusalem).
