Commissioned Work

Masterclasses
An integral part of this festival of piano playing will be four public masterclasses given by Arnaldo Cohen, Noriko Ogawa, Ronan O’Hora and Susan Tomes.
The participating pupils will be nominated by music schools and conservatoires in the United Kingdom and Europe, giving these aspiring young musicians an opportunity to learn from some of today’s renowned performers and teachers.
Schools Outreach Workshops / Performance Workshops
A series of recital/workshops were held in schools between November 2005 and May 2007.
These recitals, given by pianists from the 2001 & 2004 Competitions, encouraged the artistic and technical development of young pianists in Scotland. Some of these young players will take part in the Performance Workshops during Competition Week.
These Performance Workshops take the form of “mini masterclasses” during Competition Week and are open to the public as well as school pupils. They will allow young local pianists the wonderful experience of working on selected pieces with RSAMD staff tutors.
Lecture
The Scottish actor and author, Derek Watson, biographer of Liszt, will give an illustrated lecture, entitled “Hans von Bülow and Glasgow” in the Alexander Gibson Opera School, RSAMD, at 5pm on Thursday 13 September 2007.
